Hey everyone:
I have been scouring Craigslist for a part-time job while I'm in grad school, and so far, no dice. I want to work 10 to 20 hours a week and have skills in editing, writing, general office work, counseling, creative stuff ... I am looking for something that pays more than minimum wage. Doesn't have to be a "serious" job---just need to earn some $$.

Any leads or ideas?

Hello There,

We are moving from San Diego to the Oakland the first of May and are looking into the areas known as Rockridge, Elmwood, Lake Merritt, Temescal and Piedmont. I'm looking for a place that has craftsman style, hardwood floors, w/d on premises, parking and loads of windows with easy access to the BART, walking/biking distance to coffee shops and has neighborhood charm. Anyone out there know of any place available?

Thank you neighbors ! ! !

Second screening for Oakland filmmaker

Hi,
I'm an Oakland filmmaker that had a film that premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival and is now playing again in San Francisco.

It's called "Compound Eye" and it centers around an East Bay cartoonist who draws a controversial comic strip depicting the World Trade Center rebuilt as an IHOP with two stacks of pancakes rising high into the sky, and how it affects his roommate who is trying to quietly run a pirate radio station out of his basement. The movie stars Fausto Caceres (from the radio show, Shirley and Spinoza) and Jesse Reklaw (the cartoon, "Slow Wave"), and uses their real lives and weaves them into a fictional story.

Go to www.compoundeyemovie.com for info and a trailer.

It screens at the Climate Theater in San Francisco (the corner of 9th and Folsom)
http://www.climatetheater.com

Sunday, Nov. 11 @ 7pm

The show is only $5, and they serve beer and wine as well.
Please support local filmmaking!

7/19 & 7/21 events East Bay hipster, nerd, geek, freak, average joe/jenny social club

Hey there, hipsters, geeks, freaks, misfits, nerds and average joes/jennies who live in the Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Alameda area. New to the area, newly single, old friends too busy with kids/work/school/new lover? Tired of going to "The City" every night, and wish you had more “East Bay” partners in crime? Let's form a loose, yet tight social network of people who actually do things together on a semi-regular basis. We don't have to go across the bridge for fun every night--there’s a whole world of adventures to be had right here.
Seeking Feral Cat Allies

I am looking for some one who currently feeds a feral colony and would be willing to help me relocate a couple other fixed adult ferals to their property. I am moving soon and there are a few feral cats who have become dependent on me as a food source. I am moving 5 hours away in just under a month and can't bring them with me. I am getting them all spayed/neutered (I'm picking up the traps tomorrow, and I'm in touch with fix our ferals) and need to find somewhere to relocate them to where they will be fed and relatively safe. Even if you do not currently have feral cats on your property, but could use a barn cat or two, let me know.

Any help, information, advice, and support is deeply appreciated. These cats will not be taken by shelters because they cannot live in a home. I'd hate to see them put down, or left hungry.

"The Gift of the Turbi", a (post) holiday classic

There was a man, a young man of good heart and character, and he had a bus that he loved. The bus was the shiny yellow and black apple of his eye, and their love was complete. He veritably lived inside of her, caressing her ample bumpers and buying her all manners of distilled waters and fancy spray paints.

And she loved him too; she loved him as strongly as a bus could love a man, that tall (10 feet) long legged (35 feet) 19,000 lb lady from Hayward, and things were good.

She was a comely bus, old fashioned values and smog, and was blessed by the lord with the gift of turbo, a lovely tress of curly cast iron that adorned her intake manifiold like a jewel in a Princess' tiara. It was their pride and her joy.

And the man also possessed one thing of great sentimental and personal value: a classic turbo boost sphygomometer given to him by his grandfather, a toxic filled graduated glass and brass mercury tube of wonderful complexity that he would lovingly plumb into his beloved when he wanted to see her smile. On sundays they would go to the park and he would gently lift her covers one by one, and there they would sit, whiling away the hours in the joy that only lovers share.

The couple was poor, and didn't drink the finest Rotella, nor could afford Michelins on the table except during special occasions. And then one year, the Saint Valentine's Day holiday approached, and they were both left in a quandary, how could this poor bus and man properly show their love on this special occasion?

Finally February 14th arrived, and after a hard day at the yard, the man came home to find his beloved bride sitting, parked near the one ton, behind the trailer, near the stack of pallets where he stored the brake drums and the power steering pumps, with tears/condensation in her headlights, but still shining the most lumenous of glows towards her chosen seat taker. And the man excitedly approached her, cleverly concealing a package from his beloved's low beams.

(break for commercial)

(Scene returns to idyllic backyard full of bus parts and Japanese and American pickups)

"Look my dear" he cried, "I have the finest of gifts for the bus that has been my veritable foundation of transportation for so many wonderful years." And from under his cloak, he produced a box. And there, inside the box was a lovely air heat exchanger from Cummins in Paris, painted beautiful flat black and glowing with a non reflective dullness that shone like the night. (with all necessary connectors and fasteners, and a roll of pink teflon tape)

"Oh my Goodness", she screamed in joy, "how could you ever have brought to me such a precious and costly gift my love?" She began to sigh, and with tears now welling up in her turn signals, she said "We are but a poor couple, rich in maintenance but with a limited parts budget..."

"Well" he replied, "my love for you springs internal, just like your fuel lines, and I confess I sold the turbo boost gage to get the lovely part. but it is OK, we can do it by ear my sweet, love can conquer any vaccuum problem."

And then he spotted a splendidly wrapped box sitting on the dash. "Is that for me my love?" he asked. "A gift from the bus whose broad hips and leaf spring suspension has seen me thru my longest travels and darkest hours... I can't wait to open it!"

He carefully separated the twine, removed the paper, and gently lifted the lid off the box. And there inside was a 3/16" thru 7/8" SAE and metric adapter set for classic sphygamometers, lovingly hand chromed from Taiwan.

And then tears began to well up in his eyes, as he walked, slowly, to the side (driver's side, door behind the radiator door) of his beloved, and lifted her skirts gently for the thousandth time.

For he knew the truth already........ . . . there in place of her lovely turbo was a simple metal plate, her chestnut colored curl now nothing more than a 5 X 8 piece of aluminum or cast or pot metal or something, (it had paint on it) and her flowing manifolds had been shorn to the scalp.

And as they looked at each other, and felt the love and tender mercies that only a long time committed driver and machine can hold dear, and nurture thru the years,-- there was peace, and then they drove, hand in wheel, down to Flying J for a quiet, intimate fill.

And life was good, and love had flourished and flew and soared for a brief minute on God's Green Earth.

("The Gift of the Turbi", a holiday classic)
available on CD and cassette
www.Spokengroove.com

One voice, one guitar and the most incredible show youve ever seen. Peter Nevland and Paul Finley explode on stage with the energy and talent of the most original, rock n roll, acoustic guitar wizardry, funky white boy dancing, youve ever seen. These two performers - theyre more than poets - have taken spoken word and the art of poetry slam to new heights, raves the Santa Fe Reporter. An explosion of words, is the quotation of choice for the Dallas Morning News, lifting his arms one minute and kicking his legs the next. Since September, 2002, Peter and Paul have completed 6 tours across the U.S. And Canada and played for just about every audience imaginable. From rock hungry students to fine art lovers, inner city kids to white-collar businessman, no one can get enough of their Acoustic Spoken Groove.

Of course the most interesting aspect to them isnt so much where theyve played, but how they ended up working together. Music and writing was the last thing on Peters mind when he came to the University of Texas in 1993 to study Mechanical Engineering. When he did start writing, his performance was so inventive, bands started asking if they could play music for him while he unleashed his Dr. Seuss took a walk through the ghetto and decided to become the white, jive king style. It wasnt long before he met one of the most amazing guitarists hed ever seen in 2000 at an Austin Arts Festival.

Wisconsin-reared Paul Finley had been hooked by the guitar the first time his fingers touched the strings. At the age of 16, he began teaching, getting a diploma in Guitar Performance from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and joining his talents with the indie band, Mas Optica. Hes played with symphonies, comedy troupes, rock stars and buskers in his journey from Wisconsin to Austin. It was the perfect preparation for the turn his life was about to take as he gave Peter his card and told him to call if he wanted to do anything with music.

They finally played together a year later, realizing something instant and magical in what they were creating. After countless cities, open doors, wowed audiences, bad jokes and 7 CDs later, theyre set to take off as the folk apostles of the most original, acoustic funk machine, spoken groove combo ever experienced.

Nov. 14 Premier of Stoner's Run @ the Parkway Theater

PREMIER OF STONER'S RUN @ THE PARKWAY THEATER
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th @ 9:15pm
Parkway Theater
1834 Park Blvd.
Oakland, CA 94606
Admission: $3
21+ due to the alcohol sales

Attention everyone. I am an Oakland filmmaker and I want to announce the premier of my first feature length film, "Stoner's Run" at the historic Parkway Theater. Please mark you calendars and support your local filmmakers.

Come to the screening and meet the cast and crew of this no-budget indie film. And if you had the fortune or misfortune to work on this film, come see the fruits of our labor. Stoner's Run is what indie filmmaking is all about. No money, just vision, heart and commitment.

"Stoner's Run" is about a modern day stoner who has it all. But while partying with his friends one weekend, it all comes crashing down. While trying to score some weed, Bradley and his friends set off for some good times, adventure, and of course, weed. Little do they know that they have caught the attention of narcoticsofficers who are hungry for a bust. This little adventure will turn into a journey of epic insignificance and we learn that the good times aren’t always so good.

HGTV is looking for SF Bay Yards to Landscape

On a budget and looking for help redesigning your backyard?

Landscape Smart is looking for homeowners in the San Francisco Bay area who want to get their hands dirty redesigning their backyard. You'll get to work with one of our fabulous designers and our talented, reliable contractors who will help you create a great new yard -- all on a reasonable budget.

We are all about Smart Ideas that can save you time, money and effort on your landscape project. We can help you save a bundle on a design that might cost you much more. Our projects are primarily soft-scaping and do not include building decks, fences, pools or pouring concrete. Check out some of our shows at HGTV.com to get an idea of the types of projects we cover.

You will need to commit to two full weekdays working on your yard in front of our cameras, plus three other half-days for planning meetings and ancillary photography. You should also be looking to spend about $7000 on your project. We provide a number of resources, including a really hip professional designer, part of the cost of materials and a project that actually gets finished in two days.

Ideal candidates for Landscape Smart are homeowner couples who are outgoing, energetic, equally excited to be on TV, like to work, are open-minded and not cost-conscious beyond reason. Ideal yards are flat, around 30’x30’ and do not require more than one day of concrete removal. Interested? E-mail us at: landscapesmartsf@edelmanproductions.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!

The Amish practice of "barn raising" is a wonderful community practice. While we may not be ready to grow beards, wear homespun bonnets or give up our technology, we do want to follow this admirable example of spirit-in-action.

Let's all help one another. Together, we can fix up that room, redo that yard, build that shed, clean up that garage... All while building community and making friends. This is the Gift Economy actualized!
at the corner of 28th street and magnolia. google it.

After you get over the bridge take I-580 E / CA-24 / DOWNTOWN OAKLAND / HAYWARD-STOCKTON
When the different highways start branching off take the downtown 880 one and get off at your first exit which will be 27th street/ west grand ave. Go strait (you'll be riding underneath the freeway) until you get to west grand ave. Then make a right. Go stait for aprox. 10 blocks to adeline st. then make a right and go up to 28th street. All the streets are even numbered. take a left on 28th street and end a block over at magnolia. My place is a peach building with cracks in it. It's easier than I probably make it sound but these are correct directions.

If taking bart you take pitsburg bay point or Richmond train to Macauthur bart station. When you exit the station you'll be on 40th street. Walk 4 blocks west on 40th street to Market street and catch the ..88 bus going south to 28th st. and adeline. When on 28th street go one block west to magnolia.

If on a bike then it's easier. Get off at west Oakland bart (which is on 7th street) and ride up to 28th street then go east 4 blocks to magnolia

Im new here and wanna move to the hippest hood, closest to SF vibe without the expense! Safety first - single woman with a convertible - wanna avoid worst car break in areas, and areas with sketchy guys harrassing women on the st as i get a lot of that. Nice coffe shops/bars hang outs, yoga, neo hippy burning man etc etc
So Piedmont st/Lake merrit or Alameda...which oone of these 3 do you think best fits the bill?

Work in Return for a Place to Sleep

I'm trying like hell to get out to the Oakland area, and I was wondering if anyone had a live/work situation they could point me in the direction of?

I have a not-so-unique situation in that I had all the money to move, but instead used it to go to FL when my grandmother fell ill. To save that kind of money again in the economy at the place I'm at ($8 an hour is the top wages here, no kidding) would take longer than I care to rightfully contemplate, and its not like I'm not hireable. My last job in the city was high paying, and twice now I have posted my resume to the Bay area and been replied to no less than the next day, but the places I had to stay fell through.

I'm a single, non-smoking female, no pets, with skills in child care, house sitting, office work, house cleaning, pet sitting, and more. I work hard without complaint, I am NOT too good to do dishes, and plan on having a job very quickly. I am not a vegitarian but respectful of those that are, I dont use illicit substances in the house but dont care if others do (the most common one puts me to sleep), and when I have time again after the move you'll see me taking up roller skating, dance, and various crafty projects. I love stories, to tell them and to hear them, though I'm bad at anecdotes. I am a laid back, quiet person, considerate of others, somewhat shy but otherwise very friendly.

Ideally I'd love a place to stay a month or two until I could save up money of my own for a place to live. However, for the right situation I'd be happy to make it long term. I can start in SF for a while if the opportunity is there, but Oakland is where I want to come to rest. Doing all this from several thousand miles away with few contacts in the west is somewhat difficult, so any help would be appriciated.

Please PM me with any replies, and this is posted a few places, so I'm sorry if you're seeing it a lot.

And yes, already posting on Craigslist. ;)

Save Café van Kleef – Thu 5/25 3pm hearing - Oakland City Hall - email if you can’t make it

On Thursday May 25th at 3:00 pm in Oakland City Hall, Hearing Room 2, there will be a public hearing to determine if Peter can continue to provide live music at Café Van Kleef.

Peter’s new landlords have been trying to stop him from giving local artists a place to play for the past few months. The landlords are expected to appear at the hearing and send letters opposing the music scene at CVK. This would not only hurt the Café, but the musicians that regularly play there.

If you want to be heard you are welcome at the public hearing. If you can’t make it but would like to support there being art and entertainment in the Arts and Entertainment district, you can call or send an e-mail to Barb Killey, the hearing officer that will be deciding whether Oakland will allow live music to continue at CVK. If you plan on coming you might want to let her know so that they have a big enough room reserved.

Please send comments to:

Barbara Killey
An related article from the East Bay Express:
"Saloon guy" Peter Van Kleef fights for his bar's survival.

By Will Harper Article Published Apr 19, 2006 www.eastbayexpress.com/Issues...er.html

For nearly three years, Cafe Van Kleef has played a proud role in the hipsterization of uptown Oakland with its funky art and funky jazz performances. Now, the future of the little bar that could is in doubt: Peter Van Kleef says his new landlords have spent the past few months trying to kick him out, citing trumped-up reasons. "I'm so tired of this," he sighs. "I'm a saloon guy and that's all I want to do. I don't really want to deal with this."

"This" all started after a consortium of eight partnerships bought the building at 1621 Telegraph Avenue last fall. Van Kleef says things quickly soured during his initial sit-down with some of the owners. According to Van Kleef, they wanted him to give them his basement and mezzanine space. He was willing to do so only if he could get something in return — like the space next door, so he could expand. Ever since he resisted their demand, Van Kleef says they've been trying to get rid of him.

But that won't be easy: The bar owner has a 25-year lease, which he negotiated with his previous landlord. So, he says, the new landlords began raising dubious allegations showing him to be in violation of that lease. They claimed, for instance, that patrons were smoking inside the bar, which he denies. Last month, they sent him an eviction notice for hosting live-music shows without the cabaret license required from the city. As it turns out, Van Kleef was indeed violating city rules, although the bar owner says that no one made an issue of it until the new owners came along.

One of the owners, Stephen DeJesse, denies that he or his partners have been waging a campaign to get rid of the bar. DeJesse says everyone knew when they bought the building that Van Kleef, with his superlong lease, would come with the package. "He's more of an asset than a detriment to this area," DeJesse allows.

DeJesse says the building owners have been trying to get Van Kleef to address various safety hazards, particularly fire risks like bad electrical wiring that is not up to code. In a March 31 letter to City Administrator Deborah Edgerly, DeJesse expressed concerns that the pub's live shows attract large crowds even though the place has only one exit. DeJesse invoked the specter of the Great White concert in Rhode Island — where a fire killed 100 people — as something that could repeat itself at Cafe Van Kleef.

Van Kleef's lawyer Thomas Ostly questions DeJesse's purported safety concerns, noting that Van Kleef has never been cited by the city for code violations. The lawyer also dismisses any comparisons to the Rhode Island tragedy, which resulted from pyrotechnics fired off at a heavy metal show. The jazz musicians who play at Van Kleef typically don't blow up shit during their performances.

Ostly says the owners have backed off on their last eviction threat. In the meantime, Van Kleef has applied for a cabaret license from the city so he can keep offering live music. Good thing for him that he has friends in high places: Cafe Van Kleef happens to be one of Mayor Jerry Brown's favorite neighborhood watering holes. Last year, for instance, he spontaneously showed up during an Express bash there. Brown's press secretary, Gil Duran, also has been known to stop by for a cocktail once in a while and has clearly taken Van Kleef's side of the landlord-tenant dispute: "They're acting like Peter's stockpiling WMDs or harboring al-Qaeda," he says.

looking for reputable used Honda dealer

OK, is that a contradiction? I have never bought a car and am looking to buy a used Honda or maybe a Toyota. I thought going through a dealer would be safer than a private seller because I could get a warranty, but the reviews I found on line of Oakland Honda were all pretty bad. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reputable dealer somewhere in the Bay Area?

Thanks!!!

buses, 35 countries and counting, buses, revolution, buses

I'm a travellin' fool, mostly to the third world. Lotsa time in Central America, the Caribbean, and SE Asia.
I also travel by my buses, I have 27 or them, so if you need a bus, parts, or just advice, just yell

I'm still new to this tribe thing, but I am a nice person, and have the best buses in the world. I use school buses to haul medical and material aid to some of poorest places in the world (Haiti, Chiapas Mexico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua) and buy and sell them, and bus parts to support the project. I take every penny i make and convert it directly back into school supplies, medical supplies, tools, generators, and whatever the folks ask for specifically, (no junk, no used clothing) and then drive it down in person (except Haiti, that's $6000 thru the Panama Canal. Ouch)

I sell buses to folks that are 100% functioning in every way when they leave my hands, and also give any body thirty days to return the bus if unsatisfied. Nobody ever has, but it's OK, I'll just sell it to somebody else. you will also get a lifetime of free advice before and after you get a bus from me, I'm avaiable 7 days a week within reason, and after having dismantled 14 buses, and owning about 60,I am pretty knowledgable about their inner workings. Also got lots of good used bus parts, at the best price anywhere in the US. Ii have no overhead, just my Mazda mini truck and some tools.

What are yours?
A couple of mine are, firstly, in that movie Homer and Eddie (Whoopi Goldberg and Jim Belushi), and they're coming through the tunnell to Oakland and when they exit all you see and hear are police; there's a dead horse on the side of the road and Guns n'Roses Welcome to the Jungle is playing
Secondly, I got to watch from my apartment window when MC Hammer made these collection of music videos that was suppose to play like a movie/public service announcement. I remember how the crew made e-14th/23rd look even worse (more graffiti and trash) and after filming, they left it that way. (^_^)

Using life-sized latex and foam creatures Shadow Circus creates a world that is utterly fantastic, and yet hilariously similar to our own.
When lab monkey Klaus Von Chimpenstein predicts an 8.2 magnitude earthquake in San Francisco, Kafka (the radioactive cockroach) and Hatchet (the streetwise velociraptor) remain unflustered. Little do they know that a much bigger disaster also awaits them - the mob-like thugs of FEMA, who are sent in to collect all the poor. Can Hatchet & Kafka escape the clutches of Bush’s relief efforts? Find out March 10th at the Stork Club!

come see my film on the poet Rilke; Feb 9 at 21 Grand

I'm a local filmmaker (Berkeley) who just finished this feature film project a few months ago and I am showing it in Oakland at 21 Grand this Thursday night before I take it on the road up to Portland and Seattle. It's a well-made film (my sixth feature) about the poet Rainer Maria Rilke who, in 1908, wrote this epic lament over two nights in a Paris hotel room as a tribute to a good friend of his (and artist) who suddenly died after birthing her first child.

My films always delve into the dream lives of their characters and in this story, Rilke has two very wild dreams that scare the living daylights back into him and help him finish his "Requiem". I f you appreciate poetry in general and Rilke in particular, you will probably really enjoy this film. If you like your movies straight up with car chases, plenty of skin and rotting corpses, this film will probably bore you to tears. It's an art film fer crissakes....and I hope you come see it

Here's the details:

THURSDAY FEB. 9th, at 8pm
Venue: 21 GRAND 416 26th St (& Broadway), Oakland
Admission: $5-10. at the door. Filmmaker in person.

Global Crisis: Message From Has-No-Horses

WARNING of Global Crisis: the Message from Has-No-Horses
> [from the transcript of the Regular October Session
> (October 4, 2005)

> of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Council
Proceedings at Eagle Butte, South Dakota]
>
> OCTOBER 17, 2005
>
>

"ROBERT WALTERS: Mr. Chairman, thank you and
> Council, with us is Sidney Has-No-Horses. He is a medicine man from Oglala and Mr. Chariman, he has a message that he's going to all the tribes, all the
> reservations with what came out of a ceremony and I feel it's a good
> message.
> I visited Mr. Has-No-Horses and so at this time, I'd like to get
> the floor for him.
>
> SIDNEY HAS-NO-HORSES:
>"Mitakuye Oyasin. All my relations. I'd like to get in the middle if I could, I
> really don't like to use the mic.
>
> "My name is Sidney Has-No-Horses. I'm from the
> Pine Ridge Reservation.
> You probably know my father, his name was Dawson Has-No-Horses. He was a Yuwipi man, a powerful medicine man. My grandfather's name is Frank
Fools Crow. He was also a powerful medicine man.
>
> "Six months ago, we had a ceremony, in this ceremony, two angels
> came to me and they talked to me and they told us of the devastation that would happen to the islands and the Indian Ocean.
>
> "They told us of the earthquakes that would hit
> Japan.
>
> "They told us of the earthquakes that will hit South American and the
> they also told us of the Tsunami that wiped out all the people...
and they told us of the hurricanes that came to Florida, the one
> that came to New Orleans
> and the one that went to Texas. There's one more hurricane coming to wipe
> out another city.

Two weeks ago, we has a ceremony, ...Sitting Bull came in
and he talked to me; Crazy Horse, he talked to me; Chief Big Foot talked to
me and they asked me to go to the Seven Council Fires and to the Council
People and to warn all of these Fires, within six months.
There's going to be a tidal wave that's going to wipe out Los
Angeles.

Within six months, there 's going to be an eruption in the northwest with
the volcanoes.
"Two eruptions within six months. They say from the eruptions of these
volcanoes, the ash is coming, the Missouri River will be destroyed.

They say the water that we drink from the ground is going to be no longer drinkable.
>
These hardships are coming because Gold is bringing this.

Whether you believe in Christianity, Native American Church or the Traditional Way, if you read the Bible, we are going into the Fourth Seal.

There's diseases coming that are going to wipe out our children...

and like this man said here, meth -methaphetamine on our rez is very bad too. If we don't stop that, it's going to destroy the next generation.

Many vegetables are going to be born into our tribes. When I'm done here, I am going to Standing Rock [Reservation] and I am going to stand in front of them, their council and tell them the same thing I am telling you now.

This winter is going to be very cold for a long time. Ranchers are going to lose
their horses and cows because it is not going to warm up.

The price of propane is going to skyrocket and sometimes they are not going to be able to deliver the propane to our families. This food issue in the Bible, it says one day there will be no food in the store's shelves. If you look at the hurricane, a lot of the stores, there's no food on the shelves.
>
> "These people lost their homes. They can't drink the water and so I
come because of the mighty chiefs that talked to me and because of who I am.
They tell me, I need to warn the tribes.
>
"Today, I came here without announcement, but to see you all gathered
like this, I know God is on my side to see you gathered. The
Sisseton-Wahpeton tomorrow will be gathered at 10 o'clock and they will
hear what I have to hear. The Flandreau people are going
to be waiting for me tomorrow evening.

I 'm going up to Fort Yates here, I'm going to talk to them even if it's after hours and so I thank you very much for letting me come in and I'm thankful that I got all of you together at the same time.

I offer you all a handshake. My name is Sidney Has-No-Horses. I'm from
Batesland, South Dakota. You might want to write this down. My phone number
> is (removed). We incorporated ourselves through the State of South Dakota to let you know that we are serious.

Within six months, we are going to be living in hell of a world and these chiefs have talked to me, and my cousins. If you ever want a ceremony, you get a hold of us and we will bring you a ceremony to let you believe. But the chiefs
tell me, some of you have good hearts. Some of you have good mind. Some of you have spirituality.

You are the people that will take heed on the words I bring and there's alot of
people that didn't believe us when everything we told them has happened

and my President, Cecilia Fire Thunder, I talked to her yesterday and she
supports because everything I told her would happen to our tribe has
happened.

The power of God, he knows what he's bringing to us and in three years, as the keepers of Mother Earth, if the Seven Fires do not come
together, there's going to be a meteorite that will be coming and it's
going to hit off of San Francisco ...

and they told us that the Seven Council Fires, these Seven Fires never has hate and jealousy toward each other. I've been trying to get the medicine men of Oglala to be in unity, but they can't and now Gold asked me to come and get all the Tribal Councils together and all the Tribes together.
>
That's a very hard job that he's giving me. I'm very nervous as I stand
here in front of you, but I tried to look you all in the eye to let you know that I'm for real and so at this time, there are food for thought, things
you can think about in the next six month and this little time you have given me. I thank you.

Now I'm going to Standing Rock. I will be going to every reservation..
maybe the tribal members will get together and at least the tribal presidents will have a ceremony for all you to hear and believe in God.
>
> "All my relatives. Mitakuye Oyasin."

~~~~~~~~~~~
this is important and i thank Tenasi for posting it on his blog and sharing it with us...
peace,
Renee
Narcotics charges possible after medical marijuana raids
by Wyatt Buchanan, San Francisco Chronicle
December 22nd, 2005
Federal agents are compiling evidence seized in raids on a San Francisco medical marijuana club and pot-growing operations in the city and Sonoma County, which could soon lead to narcotics charges, a Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Agents raided the South of Market club late Tuesday after an earlier visit drew a raucous crowd of protesters.
Agents said they had seized a small amount of baked goods at the marijuana club at Ninth and Howard streets and 500 plants at a warehouse on nearby Clara Street.
Earlier Tuesday, agents raided the home of the club owners, Catherine and Steve Smith, and confiscated 122 plants, along with financial records and growing equipment.
A simultaneous raid in the Sonoma County town of Penngrove turned up 217 plants. The DEA said the investigation there led agents to the Smiths.
No one has been arrested. Casey McEnry, a DEA spokeswoman, said that the value of the seized plants was about $2 million and that agents had also taken away 20 pounds of processed marijuana.
"We're working with the U.S. attorney's office, and they are reviewing the evidence to make the determination on whether charges are filed," McEnry said.
The U.S. attorney's office would not comment.
Although medical marijuana growing and use was legalized by state voters in 1996, it is still against federal law.
Steve Smith said Wednesday that he was in "constant fear" of being arrested and had been unable to sleep.
The Smiths dispute the government's report on the size of their growing operation, saying there were only 130 plants -- not 500 -- in their warehouse. They said the agents had also taken about $50,000 in cash from their residence.
The club and affiliated cooperative, called Hope Northern California Net, has been hailed as a model business by city leaders and medical marijuana activists because its primary function is providing free or low-cost marijuana to terminally ill people.
"They were amongst the first to provide to a union of indigent patients medicine at a very low cost and in most cases free," said Caren Woodson, campaign director for Americans for Safe Access, a national coalition of patients and doctors working to legitimize medical marijuana.
The club received an "innovation" award from the San Francisco chapter of the organization.
"A number of dispensaries are models, but Hope Net is at the forefront and continues to lead the way," Woodson said.
The Smiths said their business had expanded with the need for free or low-cost medicinal marijuana.
The co-op has existed for six years, and the club has been open one year, Steve Smith said.
The Smiths grew marijuana for patients, and other growers gave marijuana to the co-op to meet the need of the 100 core patients, who the Smiths said are near death. The 300 other people who receive low-cost marijuana through the club also have terminal diagnoses, Steve Smith said.
People who go to the club and pay full price for marijuana subsidize the operation. If there is not enough marijuana for the terminal patients, the Smiths turn customers away, they said.
They said they did not know if they received marijuana from the Penngrove growing operation, because they don't keep records on who provides them with pot.
"We can't keep records. We would love to. We would love to pay taxes," said Steve Smith, adding that such records would create a paper trail for federal agents.
Drug News?
I keep thinking that Oadksterdam is all about the latest drug news, but then I see postings about nifty things going on, so I'm contributing my part to help make Oakland more fun. So There.
Oh, and the Stork has $2 PBR and mixed drinks that would cost a lot more elsewhere.
David Kaye Presents:
BLUE ROOTS is an incredible blues band that combines blues, New Orleans jazz, and jug band sounds into an awesome presentation. Led by trumpeter/guitarist Lech Wierzynski (from Poland by way of the South), this is one of the few bands I've seen that is good right out of the box. A newish band, but they know exactly what they're doing. Lech is fascinating on trumpet because many people say he's channeling Louis Armstrong.
SPOOTNIK makes a triumphant return to the Stork stage. If you took a jazz/rock band, added Russian songs and backed it up by 1950s girl group backup singers, you probably wouldn't be too far off. It's music unlike anything you've ever heard, well-executed, lively, and fun.
This will definitely be a good night of music.
Remember the David Kaye credo: Always a quality show; no filler, no fluff.
Notes:
MY EMAIL HAS SUDDENLY CHANGED. For unexplained reasons, Yahoo has deleted my account, davidkayepromo@yahoo, so PLEASE DON'T USE IT. I have no idea
why they won't restore it and I can't reach them for an answer. So in the meanwhile, use davidkayepromo2@yahoo.com.
NEWS: Local band makes good. One of the bands I've booked in the past and I'm especially fond of, Cari Lee and the Saddle-Ites, has since appeared at Opryland, opened for Brooks & Dunn at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, and Cari Lee herself has been tapped to play lead in a musical stage play about legendary country star Rose Maddox.
Just goes to show you that if you go to one of my shows you'll see some great acts before the Big Guys snatch them away to fame and fortune.
Amazing Shows At the Stork Club
People with unusual music or unusual acts of any sort (puppet shows to glass eaters) who are looking to be on a Saturday night show, I'm booking shows at the Stork Club in Oakland these days. I also have Tuesdays and Sundays available as well.
My idea of unusual music is, well go to my website and take a look around:
http://www.davidkaye.us
Oh, and by the way, I have Tranny Rock Night on Tuesday November 29 at the Stork, featuring Lipstick Conspiracy (a tight band that has been getting a lot of press lately) and opener, Kielbasa, everybody's main squeeze.
And on the 13th, an all-Western and rockabilly show.
On the 15th, an all Balkan show (Bulgariand and Greek rembetika!)
The Stork is becoming
